The 13th of February 2015 Delegates from 194 countries reached an agreement on a negotiating text for the climate change agreement that shoiuld be reached in Paris at the end of 2015.

Eventually, a decision was made to convene an intergovernmental conference, under the auspices of the United Nations, to adopt a treaty for the management of marine biodivresity in areas beyond national jurisdictions

Today the ICJ rendered its judgement on the case of Japanese whaling in the Antarctic (Australia v. Japan: New Zealand intervening).

The Court found inter alia that

– the “special permits granted by Japan in connection with JARPAII do not fall within the provisions of Article VIII, paragraph 1, of the International  Convention for the Regulation of Whaling”,

– that “Japan, by granting special permits to kill, take and treat fin, humpback and Antarctic minkewhales in pursuance of JARPAII, has not acted in conformity with its obligations under paragraph 10 (e) of the Schedule” to the Convention,

– that ” Japan has not acted in conformity with its obligations under paragraph 10 (d) of the Schedule to the International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling in relation to the killing, taking and treating of fin whales in pursuance of JARPAII”,

– that “Japan has not acted in conformity with its obligations under paragraph 7 (b) of the Schedule to the International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling in relation to the killing, taking and treating of fin whales in the “Southern Ocean Sanctuary” in pursuance of JARPAII”

and ordered “that Japan shall revoke any extant authorization, permit or licence in relation to JARPAII, and refrain from granting any further  permits in pursuance of that programme”

Il Segretariato permanente della Convenzione delle Alpi cerca un/una responsabile giuridico/a.

Il responsabile giuridico sarà, fra l’altro, “incaricato/a di assistere il Segretario generale in relazione alle questioni di carattere giuridico, redigere contratti e impegni di carattere legale, rispondere alle domande del pubblico e delle Parti Contraenti in tema di attuazione giuridica della Convenzione e dei suoi protocolli, e tenere contatti con altre organizzazioni internazionali, dal punto di vista legale”. Il contratto ha durata determinata di tre anni, rinnovabile fino a sei. La sede di lavoro sarà Innsbruck, con frequenti spostamenti. Il dossier di candidatura va inviato entro il 26 febbraio 2014.
